This engagement shoot was something else!

I was already booked in to photograph Victoria and Kyle’s wedding, Victoria had contacted me some months earlier and locked me in. I’ve always been a huge advocate for having an engagement shoot prior to your wedding day. It gives you a little bit of experience and time to get comfortable being in front of a camera doing loved up things, something that normally benefits the guys more than the girls. Its also a great way to take an hour or so out of your day and really focus on only each other, you aren’t just doing the same activity at the same time (like working out or watching a movie) you are together, being together. It's something that we so rarely do these days.

We met up an hour before sunset, generally regarded as the ideal time to get an outside shoot started due to the sensational lighting this time of day offers (referred to in the photography industry as “golden hour”). Meeting Kyle for the first time was a pleasure, just a genuine nice guy, its easy to see why these two are absolutely obsessed with each other. When you meet a couple and they start canoodling, hugging, kissing, and laughing hysterically due to their constant telling of "in jokes” you’re on to a good thing. I spent more time shooting them doing their own thing than I did trying to create things for them to do. To be honest, this is how I really love to shoot. I’d much prefer to take a couple to a sweet location and put them in some good lighting with a descent background and capture them just doing their own thing with a little bit of guidance thrown in. It’s natural and how they are, its not posed or forced whatsoever, just genuine, natural and raw.

The rocky beach and "glacial pavements" at Hallett Cove were the perfect spots to explore. At the end we were hit with the all too common blazing orange, pink and purple sunset that this part of the world serves up on the regular.

I’ll be capturing the wedding of these two early next year, so keep an eye out for that one.
